In 1867 the company was privatized and has been under private ownership since that time. However, it still bears the crown in it’s trademark and is still a supplier to the royal court in Denmark.

The three wavy lines under the crown pay tribute to Denmark’s tradition as a seafaring nation and represent Denmark’s three ancient waterways: The Sound, the Great Belt, and the Little Belt.

In 1882 Royal Copenhagen was purchased by the faience factory Aluminia. Shortly after that the company was moved to a factory in Frederiksberg Copenhagen.

Royal Copenhagen merged with the Bing & Grondahl Company in 1987 and is now part of a group of Scandinavian companies called Royal Scandinavia.

The world’s first Limited Edition collector’s plate, “Behind the Frozen Window” was issued by Bing & Grondahl in 1895.

Since that time Bing & Grondahl’s has issued one Christmas plate every year without interruption despite wars and economic crises.
